Letter signed from William Cecil to Robert Petre [manuscript], 1578 October 7.

Signed W. Burghley, with integral address leaf addressed to "To my louing frend Mr. Robert Peter Auditor of the Receipte." Requests that Petre attend a meeting with himself and Thomas Jenison to discuss Irish debts due to England. With autograph postscript specifying the nature of these debts: those arising out of the lord deputyship of Sir Henry Sidney.

Thomas Sackville, Baron Buckhurst, as the Queen's personal envoy, was sent to France in February 1571 to negotiate a marriage between Elizabeth I and Henry, Duke of Anjou (later Henry III, King of France).
